I had been citing sources and putting page numbers but I don't think that's necessary. We know the book and there's an index in it. Further reading this chapter, for some reason or another, I thought the speaker should identify with the audience. To identify is to form a common bond between the speaker and the audience. It seems we should focus on something to relate with when being with someone.
However, sometimes it may be better to deliberately not identify with the audience but rather antagonize them to an extent. Maybe you should be like me in the picture above (not really). If there is a political scandal that is not well known and if the speaker is in the right rhetorical situation, it may be beneficial to let the audience know even if the audience has people who support this politician.
